On the shores of the
Mediterranean, Tipasa was an ancient Punic trading-post conquered by Rome and
turned into a strategic base for the conquest of the kingdoms of Mauritania. It
comprises a unique group of Phoenician, Roman, palaeochristian and Byzantine
ruins alongside indigenous monuments such as the Kbor er Roumia, the great royal
mausoleum of Mauritania.
Tombeau
de la Chretienne

The mausoleum of the Mauritanian Royal Family, or Tomb of the Christian Girl, as
it is also called, is one of the most interesting archaeological sites. It
is believed that this large construction dates back to 100 BC. It is in
surprisingly good condition, especially when compared to the younger Roman ruins
in other parts of Algeria. There are 60 coloums running around the cylindrical structure, and it
has been constructed 4 fake doors into the interior, while the real door was not
discovered until 185, when it was discovered that it lead into a chamber, that
proved to be empty.
